Guy story reads like a modern maritime adventure. Born in Cape Town and now heading our Caribbean operations, his life has been shaped entirely by the sea, as an adventurer, professional sailor, music event producer, and touring musician. This isn't your typical yacht broker biography!

Born Into the Wind

Guy’s journey began on the wild west coast of Cape Town, South Africa, where days were  defined by heavy swells and gusts well over 30 knots. Growing up in a family of sailors, he  learned to navigate the harsh conditions off the southern tip of Africa from a young age.

“It was just part of life,” Guy says. “Sailing in heavy wind didn’t feel extreme—it felt normal. That environment teaches you to respect the sea, and to be ready for anything.”

Craftsmanship in Holland

At just 17, Guy left South Africa for the Netherlands, where he joined his older brother on a  boat-building project at the prestigious Vitters Shipyard. Working among master builders, he was  exposed to the technical side of yachting, gaining an appreciation for precision, innovation, and  the craftsmanship behind world-class vessels.

“That experience opened my eyes to what the industry could be. I realized I didn’t just want to  sail boats—I wanted to understand them inside and out.”

A Caribbean Homeport

By 2003, Guy had followed his family’s sailing path across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. Sint Maarten became his home base—a launchpad for countless transatlantic crossings, US East Coast deliveries, and high-performance regattas.

In 2009, he set his sights westward and began his journey through the South Pacific, eventually anchoring in New Zealand. These years at sea added depth to his sailing repertoire and a global perspective to his navigation skills.
After returning to Sint Maarten in 2014, Guy immersed himself in performance cruising multihulls—developing a strong technical understanding through charter operations, regatta racing, and vessel management.

Multihull Advisor

With a background rooted in both the practical and professional sides of yachting, Guy approaches each client relationship with attention, respect, and an understanding of the bigger picture.
“I’ve crossed oceans, managed vessels, raced multihulls, and lived aboard. I try to bring that perspective to every conversation, because it’s not just about specs or sales. It’s about helping people find something that truly works for them.”

At Rapide, the focus is on ensuring the client finds the right level of performance, seaworthiness, and platform for their specific adventure. For Guy, it’s not about pushing a deal across the line. It’s about making sure the right people end up on the right boat, for the right reasons.
