MyCat Gunboat 78

Launched in 2017 in North Carolina, MyCat is a custom Gunboat 78 built for luxury and high-performance bluewater cruising. Her carbon fibre construction and Hall Spars rotating wing mast deliver an exceptional balance of power, stiffness, and comfort at sea.

Equipped with North Sails and a dedicated forward cockpit for trimming and sail handling, MyCat is effortless to sail and embodies Gunboat’s reputation for performance and innovation.

Her light, open interior offers 360° panoramic views across the salon, aft cockpit, and forward cockpit/trampoline, creating a seamless indoor–outdoor lifestyle. Below, four ensuite cabins, a fully equipped galley, crew mess, and dedicated crew cabin provide comfort and practicality for extended voyages.

Yachts of this size, pedigree, and performance rarely come to market — MyCat represents an exceptional opportunity to own one of the finest large performance catamarans ever built.

CONSTRUCTION

  • CONSTRUCTION & BUILD OVERVIEW

Completed in the USA in North Carolina, MyCat features advanced sandwich construction with carbon fibre outer and inner skins bonded to a lightweight Corecell foam core. Gurit, a global leader in marine composite technology, supplied all composite materials.

This carbon/epoxy sandwich structure delivers an exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio, enhancing MyCat’s performance, responsiveness, and seakeeping in all conditions.

LAYOUT

  • LAYOUT OVERVIEW

MyCat’s interior creates a distinctive atmosphere with panoramic 360° views across three interconnected living spaces — the salon, aft cockpit, and forward cockpit/trampoline — designed for an effortless indoor–outdoor lifestyle, whether at anchor or offshore cruising.

The large aft cockpit offers a protected social area ideal for dining and relaxation, while the forward cockpit and trampoline provide a versatile space for sailing, lounging, or enjoying the breeze underway.

Below, four spacious cabins, each with a private en suite head, combine elegance, comfort, and privacy. Complementing these are a fully equipped galley, dedicated crew mess, and separate crew cabin, ensuring practicality and ease for extended cruising.
  • SALOON

The spacious saloon is bright and open with 360 deg panoramic views connecting you to the ocean.

The helm station is located centrally and forward affording good views of the jib tell-tales and the main sail trim above through an electrically sliding hatch. With the Recaro-like carbon framed seats, it is more akin to a rally car.

There is a navigation area forward to starboard that houses many of MY CAT's control systems. C-Zone monitors and controls most of the yacht's systems while a separate hydraulic system controls winches, rams, etc.

There is a huge amount of redundancy built in.

The starboard side of the saloon has a dining table that comfortably sits eight guests.

There are comfortable lounging sofas aft and to port with a 50” flatscreen on the aft side of the helm station.

The low coffee table opens up to a well-stocked bar which compliments the wine fridge by the navigation area.
  • AFT COCKPIT

It is completely shaded from the elements thanks to the extended carbon coach-roof. There are removable plasti-glass side panels that can provide even more protection if conditions dictate.

The extendable carbon dining table on the port side can sit up to 10 guests while the lounging area on the starboard side is among the most popular spots onboard to kick back and relax.

There are two ice makers aft depending on whether your sundowner of choice requires chipped ice or cubes!
  • PORT SIDE OWNERS HULL

It is a mirror image of the starboard-side aft except with better AV and some personal touches. Large double bed athwartships. Ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle.
  • GUEST CABINS X 3

-VIP starboard aft, same layout as the master cabin with large double athwartship, ensuite bathroom, and shower cubicle.
-Double mid-ships on the port side with bunk fore-aft. Ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle.
-Twin guest cabin forward port side with bunks, ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle.
  • CREW CABIN

On the forward starboard side ahead of the galley. There are two bunk beds with an ensuite bathroom and shower. The crew mess is located ahead of the galley and its sofa transforms into a third crew bunk if necessary.
  • GALLEY

Descending from the saloon down the starboard-forward steps you first come to a service area with a top-loading fridge, worktop space, and storage locker for cups and glasses above.
  • TRANSOM ACCESS

Both transoms have been extended to create generous swim platforms, enhancing access to the water and improving overall safety when boarding.

What our clients say

Reviews

“Spike is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to high performance multihulls like my Gunboat 48. ”

Over the years, he’s supported me with resources, connections, and advice, it’s been invaluable.

John John Florence

3X World Champion Surfer, Olympian, Founder of Florence Marine X

“As a seller of a higher end performance catamaran, Rapide proved to be the ideal choice for me, for 3 main reasons. Spike brought to bear a really effective combination of in-depth product expertise, sound advice on pricing and position, and solid buyers well matched to the boat.”

High performance, blue water, catamarans are a very niche market. Spike’s years of experience in this field really set him apart from other brokers that don’t specialize in this area. For this reason he provides better feedback on positioning and pricing and most importantly finding qualified buyers that understand and appreciate and are willing to pay for the special capabilities of high performance catamarans.

Rich Schneider

Seller Balance 526 Blue Diamond

“Thank you for offering an alternative to all the shit brokers out there! We feel fortunate to be working with you.”

We came to Rapide looking for a safe, well-performing catamaran that could take our family around the world. As passionate sailors with a clear vision—and after a frustrating experience with another broker—we knew we needed someone transparent, knowledgeable, and truly on our side. Spike listened. He understood what we were after. It’s rare to find a broker who genuinely gets it, and even rarer to find one who truly cares. That’s why we’re so glad we found Rapide. Thank you.

Courtney and Mike

World Cruising Dream

“In the world of performance yachts, no one matches Spike Abrams technical capability, commitment to excellence, and high level of customer service.”

Spike’s Rapide Yacht Group had it all together… from the very first contact he gave me solid advise and handled a complex transaction expertly at every hurdle and step. Engaged and responsive at all times, even after the close, I couldn’t be happier.

Edgar

Buyer Gunboat 60 Moementum

“Trustworthy, hardworking, and most friendly. What started in a search for a Gunboat, ended in a long-lasting friendship and relationship with the guy who sold it to us.”

It has been the longest time since my dad dreamed of owning a Gunboat. With the long dream came the longest road. There has been so much consideration, so much decision making and so many emotions involved in this process. It has truly been overwhelming and yet so fulfilling. With all honesty, if it wasn’t for Spike we would not be here and proud Gunboat owners. Every text message, every phone call, every trip to see a boat, every decision and indecisiveness we had -Spike was there, answering honestly with our best interest at heart.

Nick Thompson

Buyer & Seller Gunboat 60 -

“Spike Abram is one of the rare professionals in the multihull space who combines deep technical knowledge with real diplomacy”

Identifying and hiring a knowledgeable owner’s representative to protect a client’s investment during construction is essential. A strong project manager must balance technical expertise with clear, tactful communication. Spike is one of the few professionals in the performance multihull segment who brings both—and does so with integrity.

FAQs

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE RAPIDE YACHT GROUP?

Rapide is an independent brokerage with a client-first approach. We put your needs before our own, offering honest, unbiased advice and full access to the global market. Our deep technical expertise and hands-on experience allow us to guide you through every step of the process with clarity and precision. It all begins with a personal consultation to understand your goals, followed by a curated selection of yachts that match your specific program. From negotiation to inspection, contracts to delivery, we’re with you all the way.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS IN BUYING A YACHT?

It all starts with a conversation, so the first step is to pick up the phone and speak with one of our experts. We’ll help you set your budget and define your key requirements, such as size, performance, preferred cruising grounds, and any designers or builders you admire. Your Rapide broker will then curate a shortlist of the best yachts available both on and off the market that align with your goals. We’ll also provide detailed comparisons between brands and insights into individual yachts’ ownership profiles, helping you identify real value. It’s all in the details. From there, we’ll arrange viewings so you can step aboard your top choices and narrow down the right fit. When you’re ready to proceed, we’ll assist with negotiations and contract preparation. Once terms are agreed, sea trials and surveys are scheduled and completed to ensure the yacht meets expectations. From there, we move to acceptance, and you’ll receive expert advice on flagging and insurance while the Rapide team advises during final documentation and the closing process. At that point, the yacht is yours and it’s time to enjoy your new adventure.

HOW LONG DOES A PRE-OWNED PURCHASE TAKE?

The timeline for purchasing a pre-owned yacht typically ranges from 4 to 8 weeks from offer to closing, but this can vary depending on several factors. These include the complexity of due diligence, survey results, financing, the seller’s timeline, and the buyer’s chosen flag state. International transactions involving foreign flags can offer advantages through entities registered in jurisdictions with favorable legal and tax environments. They may also broaden your insurance options by providing access to global markets and underwriters. However, they often require additional steps, which can extend the process by a couple of weeks. If you’re working to a specific deadline, let your Rapide broker know early, and we’ll tailor the process to align with your timeline and navigate any complexities on your behalf.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO SEA TRIAL?

To complete a sea trial, you’ll typically need the following:

  1. An Accepted Offer
Most sellers will only approve a sea trial after a written offer is accepted and a deposit is placed in escrow. The offer will include a contingency for the sea trial and survey.

  2. Signed Purchase Agreement
A binding agreement outlining the terms, timelines, and contingencies, protecting both buyer and seller throughout the process.

  3. Deposit in Escrow
A standard 10% deposit is held in ESCROW during the trial and survey period. It remains fully refundable if you reject the vessel in writing before the acceptance deadline.
